This is one of my favorite vintage photographs being exhibited in Galleria Taal in Batangas. It is entitled "Mestiza de Sangley" by photographer Francisco Van Camp, circa 1875.

In Spanish Colonial times, Sangley refers to a person of pure Chinese ancestry. A Mestizo de Sangley is a person with an ancestry of Chinese and Indio. Indios are the indigenous people - the pure-blooded Pinoys.

Pretty, isn't she? Laid-back with her hair down. This is probably the casual wear of the time.
